Tour Montparnasse, Paris

It is a little warmer than yesterday, and a little sunny, so I decide to go to Tour Montparnasse late in the afternoon. After a late lunch at Le Charley Bun’s on Place du Marche St Honore. Only in France would you be asked how you want your burger cooked. Normally it’s served in the state that the cook chucks it out of the fry-pan in. Oh, and they serve the best cappuccino I had in Paris, and have a gorgeous marmalade tom cat who will visit you at your table!

At Tour Montparnasse, it turns out that they are renovating the enclosed viewing deck that has a restaurant on the 54th floor (fine with me), but the outdoor roof area is still open. A recent ‘improvement’ has been the installation of glass shields on the roof, which cuts down the wind chill factor significantly. It used to be a case of try to stay on the roof long enough to photograph the city from the highest point before the cold made your fingers freeze, but now the downside it that glass shields make it virtually impossible to shoot a decent panoramic image of Paris. Still worth the 8 Euros entry fee though, but I bet it will be bedlam in summer with photographers competing for the small areas available to poke their camera lenses through.

Some beautiful light highlighting the Luxembourg gardens. For a major city, Paris has a lot of green spaces that it takes immense pride in, and the view from Tour Montparnasse is a good way of spotting parks and gardens to visit.
